I’ve attended some “magical” weddings in my day, but tonight’s wedding added a new dimension to that term. When Teresa and Tei decided to throw their Dapper Day Disney Themed wedding they wanted to bring some of the class of Disneyland in the 1950s to their wedding. After all, it was at Dapper Day where Teresa proposed to Tei, so it made perfect sense to carry that over to their wedding day. Their friends and family, who all showed up dressed to the nines, made the time machine truly work. They first gathered outside one of the historical houses at Strathearn Historical Park to witness a ceremony filled with love, laughter, bubbles, and a Chihuahua named Hedwig. (Their ring bearer.)
To bring just a slice of the Happiest Place on Earth to one’s wedding is cool. To pack all of their favorite things into one Cocktail Hour is AWESOME! First of all, they had Churros, Popcorn, and Dole Whips made even sweeter by the suggestion to add a splash of rum. Then they had a Silhouette maker on hand. To top it all off, they brought in the former guitarist of the Big Thunder Mountain BBQ Woody’s Round Up, Denny, who enchanted the crowd with his Disney songs and improv comedy. Meanwhile, the bar was open, and there was corn hole, Jenga , and a giant Connect Four game to keep kids and kids-at-heart totally entertained. Then there was the mouthwatering aroma of the evening’s BBQ being cooked right there in front of everyone by Green Acres Catering. I also have to shout-out their amazing photography team Marina and Wyatt from Campbell Family Photography for just being two of the coolest couple I’ve worked with in a long time!
The guests eventually made their way into the barn where each table was uniquely designed to resemble some of their favorite Disneyland attractions, such as Indiana Jones, Dumbo, The Haunted Mansion, Matterhorn, and others. Then the Grand Entrance to end all Grand Entrances took place. The bridal party danced in to “Spice Up Your Life” all while carrying ribbons on sticks. Those ribbons were then put to great use as Tei and Teresa entered to the Boat Finale of “Fantasmic”. Teresa and Tei then danced to “Just Like Heaven” for the first time as newlyweds. Before everyone could dig into the BBQ Buffet, a couple of toasts were given culminating in the most theatrical song and dance number I’ve ever seen.
After dinner it took no effort to get all the guests out of their seats and onto the dance floor. Teresa loved to dance and told me early on she would be on the floor all night. Tei also loved to dance but only to songs she liked. What did she like? The most awesome assortment of 80s and 90s music for a start. So you can imagine how much fun I had playing these throwback favorites to a crowd that never seemed to get tired. The only break they took was to cut their Princess and the Frog themed cake and their Money Dance, which was given a twist. (Whoever made the most amount of money got out of trash duty for the first year of the marriage!) We kept the party going until it was finally time to say good night. Tei and Teresa did one last slow dance to “Purple Rain.” However, as an homage to the first time they met at The Rocky Horror Picture Show, we all did the “Time Warp.” I can’t thank these two enough for allowing me to be a part of their truly magical wedding!
