Monica & David’s Wedding – December 13th 2014

I met Monica and David at their reception venue, a restaurant in Garden Grove, back in June. Monica was nervous because she and David are Christians, and she was looking for a DJ who would respect their beliefs by making sure the music and announcements were non-suggestive and clean, while orchestrating a good time for everyone. David absolutely loves to dance and the music was the most important element of the evening. I must have fit the bill because not only did they choose me as their MC/DJ, but also we have become friends over the past six months.

Monica and David had a tricky situation. After the ceremony, which took place at Monica’s parents’ church, they wanted to entertain her Korean family, his Chinese family, as well as their close friends who also loved to dance and party. They chose to have an “Disney’s Up” Themed Wedding to bring everyone together, complete with lots of balloons, décor inspired from the movie, and cool little Grape Soda pins for all of their guests. I also sprinkled in some music from the score during dinner to add to the ambience. The theme turned this restaurant into a whimsical playground where everyone’s inner child could come out and have a great time.

As with most Korean wedding receptions, the formalities were completed earlier in the evening than usual to appease the more traditional family members who like to leave as soon as they are done eating. With the Bouquet and Garter toss done by 8pm, we had three hours left to just dance…and dance we did!!! Monica and David’s friends LOVED older 90s Hip-Hop and Dance Music as well as current Top-40 hits. We all had a great time and the party went all the way until the end of the night. (And, I believe, beyond that…After Party!!!!)
