Heather and Michael have been sweethearts since high school 22 years ago. They have one beautiful 2-year old daughter, Elena, and a chocolate lab, Unula. When they finally decided to get married, they chose the beautiful Calamigos Equestrian Center as the place to do it. They picked a special day too. Not only was it the Summer Solstice but Father’s Day as well. The ceremony was held on the Equestrian Patio and was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Their friend of many years officiated their ceremony.
At the reception, Heather and Michael were all smiles. Their first dance was a choreographed routine to Barry White’s “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything,” which transitioned into “Hot Dog” by They Might Be Giants so their daughter could join them. (I think Michael had more fun dancing the Hot Dog Dance than Elena!) Their guests were treated to sentimental moments like the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances, as well as lots of time to get down on the dance floor themselves. We even did a Kid’s Dance Set for all the children who were in attendance.
There were a few challenges we faced on this day. First of all, it was a Sunday Afternoon/Early Evening wedding, and Michael was convinced that his family did not dance. But thanks to some creative icebreakers and interactive dances, we got the crowd moving and shaking…even Michael’s family. At one point, my partner, Johanna, even ran out to the dance floor to teach them the Electric Slide, which someone requested but forgot how to do. Also, Heather’s father, Fred, and some of the guests were deaf. I used an old trick I learned and aimed my Sub-woofer at the floor, so those who could not hear the music could feel it. I also used my color changing LED lights to dance to the beat of the music when it was time to dance, so they could have a visual cue as well. I’m happy to say that everyone, deaf, hearing, young, old, kids, adults, all danced and had a great time.
