Eunice & Joo’s Wedding – May 20th 2017

I met with Eunice and Joo for the first time back in November at their venue, Calamigos Equestrian. Joo was traveling in from San Jose for their bi-annual food tasting, and I offered to do a walkthrough of the Polo Room with them, demonstrating where we could place the up-lights, where I would set-up, and just talking about their vision. Just hearing how much Eunice liked old 90s Hip-Hop bonded me to them, and I couldn’t wait until the following May to DJ their wedding.

When the day arrived, The Polo Room and the Little White House looked exquisite. Steven, their coordinator, was being his usual awesome self running back and forth between the two areas, gathering up the bridal party, getting everyone where they needed to be, and making sure everything was absolutely perfect. The ceremony was beautiful with two of Eunice and Joo’s church friends singing and playing guitar for the hymn and sand ceremony. After the ceremony, the photographer, Paige, had her work cut out for her as Eunice and Joo wanted group photos with every imaginable combination of family, friends, church family, etc. The pastor took the microphone and directed the madness. I can only hope the videographer Bryon got this hilarity captured.

Finally, it was time to move the guests over to the Polo Room. After the cocktail hour, the guests filed in and took their seats. The Grand Entrance was exciting, and it was followed by a charming first dance. But these guests wanted to dance and after their delicious dinner, it was time to give them what they wanted. I had to keep the music varied up until the last formality in order not to scare off too many of the wedding guests. However, once the bouquet was tossed, it was on…to the Old School Hip-Hop that is. Eunice and Joo’s friends turned the Polo Room into their own personal night club.

In the weeks leading up to the big day, Joo asked me if I could help him with a couple of ideas he wanted to make happen. First, he and his mom were going to be singing a Korean song in lieu of a Mother/Son dance. His mom really wanted the lyrics to the song (in both Korean and English) projected somehow so everyone could see them. Joo created a Power Point presentation, and his brother offered to run it during the song. Second, they had a short slide show they wanted projected on a loop while their guests ate dinner. The challenge was finding a place to project these things in their room, which was crammed with 250 guests. Our only solution was to place the screen up high on a table behind the DJ set-up and to project it from a raised up projector mount. I was in my garage weeks before the event measuring my screen and table to beat the 8’4” ceiling height. (We made it by ½ an inch!) The guests were enthralled to see a unique twist on a traditional custom.
